The collection houses two letters that Alex Haley wrote to Dr. Willard C. Goley in April of 1973 and August of 1974 in addition to a photocopy of an article entitled "In His Roots Search Alex Haley Feels His Link."

This collection houses notes, outlines, bibliographies, research, and legal papers documenting Alex Haley's Roots through 1977. Of particular interest are the items showing Harold Courlander's lawsuit against Haley, Doubleday & Company, and various affiliated groups.

This collection houses manuscripts, correspondence, photographs, cassette tapes, videotapes, trial transcripts, and other materials documenting Alex Haley's literary career. Of particular interest are those materials showing Haley's Roots and the subsequent plagiarism trials related to the book.

This collection consists of a pamphlet about Alex Haley's Queen. The pamphlet consists of set pictures, a timeline of the Civil War, and a synopsis of each part of the mini-series. The pamphlet was intended to be used as a study and discussion guide for classroom teachers to use alongside viewing Queen, a television mini-series documenting the life of Haley's grandmother.

In this photocopied genealogical sketch, J. G. M. Ramsey traces the Alexander family's genealogy from Sir William Alexander (the first of the family to settle in the United States) to his granddaughter, Rhody (Alexander) Rodgers and her immediate family. Ramsey was related to the Alexanders through his father, who was William Alexander's great-grandson.

This collection consists of several photographs of scientists Alexander Gurwitsch and Hermann Muller. The photographs of Gurwitsch were taken in October 1933, November 1933, and November 1937 and also depict his wife and long-time collaborator Lydia. The photograph of Muller and his wife, Dorothea, was taken in 1950. Also included is a photograph of laboratory equipment.

This collection houses correspondence, schedules, notes, lectures, and publications documenting Alexander Hollaender's 1962 term as Messenger Lecturer at Cornell University.

This collection houses correspondence, notebooks, data sheets, publications, travel records, and experimental data documenting Alexander Hollaender's long scientific career. Of particular interest are the items showing Hollaender's groundbreaking work with the effects of radiation and methods of radiation protection.

This collection houses correspondence, notes, reprints, and other materials documenting Alexander Hollaender's participation in various symposiums and workshops toward the end of his career. Hollaender's personal files dating from 1950 to 1975 are also included.

This addition to the Hollaender papers represents Dr. Hollaender's continuing interest in the UT Library's Radiation Biology Archives. It houses journals, international conference files, correspondence, illustrative materials, and awards documenting Dr. Hollaender's life and work.

The collection consists of one document, signed and sealed by former President William McKinley, to announce the appointment of Alexander Ragan as postmaster for Newport, Tennessee on February 15, 1898.

This button, worn by Alf Taylor's supporters during Tennessee's War of the Roses, bears a single red rose and the legend War of the Roses: Bring One. It was manufactured by Smith & Lamar of Nashville, Tennessee and Dallas, Texas.

This collection houses sixty-six volumes documenting Swiss immigrant Alfred Buffat's life and work in Knox County, Tennessee.

A single letter, written October 26, 1863, by Alfred Edward Waldo to his parents. In the letter, he details the defense of Knoxville, Tennessee against General James Longstreet's attack as well as writing of his rations and requesting for new clothes.

Alfred Gruber wrote this letter to his father, Joseph Gruber, from Chattanooga, Tennessee on July 18, 1865. In it, he discusses the aftermath of the war in Chattanooga and wonders whether he should accept the government's offer of a bounty in exchange for five years of service.

This collection consists of papers belonging to Alfred Leo Schmied, piano professor at the University of Tennessee from 1947-1977 and head of the Music Department from 1952-1972. Schmied was a member of several national music organizations and was educated by world-renowned instructors. He himself was renowned for his nationally-recognized excellence in piano and his legacy in music education.

This collection includes typed transcriptions of several letters written by Alfred M. Cate during his time serving in the Tennessee Senate to his brother, George O. Cate. They talk about legislation, the Republican party, their family, and other updates from the Senate Chamber. The original letters are dated from January-February 1868.

This collection houses a review of Neil Rolde's Continental Liar from the State of Mane: James G. Blaine that Alfred M. Perry presented to the Irving Club on February 18, 2008.
